(Lesson 4826) (04-19-25) 1st Corinthians 16:1-4
“Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters, them will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem. And if it be meet that I go also, they shall go with me.”
In today’s lesson, Paul provided instructions for a collection of goods intended to support the impoverished believers in Jerusalem. He advised the Corinthian church to do the same as had the Galatian church: each believer should set aside a portion of their income on the first day of the week, saving it up so that no collections would be necessary when he arrived. Paul emphasized that giving should be proportional to one's ability, reflecting personal commitment and thoughtful stewardship. Paul also outlined a plan for delivering the collected funds: the Corinthians were to select trustworthy individuals to carry their gift to Jerusalem. If deemed appropriate, Paul expressed his willingness to accompany them. This passage underscores the principles of deliberate, proportionate giving and collective responsibility in supporting those brothers and sisters in Christ who are in need. ~
