Lesson 4818

 (Lesson 4818) (04-11-25) 1st Corinthians 14:34-40

“Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only? If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order.”

In today’s quote, Paul addressed the Corinthian church regarding maintaining order during worship services. He instructed that women should remain silent in the churches, not being permitted to speak, and should be in submission, as was also written in the laws of the Jews. If a woman wished to learn something, they were advised to ask their husbands at home, for it was considered shameful for a woman to speak in church. He stated that those who consider themselves prophets should acknowledge that his writings are commandments from the Lord. However, if anyone chooses to be ignorant of this, they will remain so. He concluded by encouraging the brethren to desire earnestly to prophesy and not to forbid speaking with differing languages, but emphasized that all things should be done decently and in order in the churches. ~
