(Lesson 4823) (04-16-25) 1st Corinthians 15:31-34
“I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily. If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die. Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.”
In today’s quote, Paul underscored the daily risks and sacrifices he endured for the sake of the gospel. He declared, "I die daily," indicating his constant exposure to danger and his willingness to face death each day as he preached Christ. Paul referenced his experience of "fighting with beasts at Ephesus," which is a metaphor for the fierce opposition he encountered, highlighting the perils he faced. He questioned the value of such hardships if there is to be no resurrection, suggesting that without hope in the resurrection, one might as well become hedonistic and say, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die." He warned the Corinthians not to be misled by false teachings, stating, "Evil company corrupts good habits." Paul urged them to awaken to righteousness, pointing out that some among them, just like many today, lack knowledge of God. He expressed this to their shame, as well as ours. ~
