Lesson 4814

 (Lesson 4814) (04-07-25) 1st Corinthians 12:28-31

“And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.”

In today’s quote, Paul listed the roles God has appointed in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, followed by miracles, gifts of healings, helps, administrations, and varieties of tongues. He emphasized that not all believers have the same gifts or roles, asking rhetorical questions like “Are all apostles? Are all prophets?” to highlight this diversity. Paul encouraged believers to earnestly desire gifts, but concluded by saying he would show them a more excellent way, setting the stage for the next chapter on love. This passage underscores God’s sovereign arrangement of spiritual gifts and the importance of pursuing what builds up the body of Christ. ~
