(Lesson 4451)(04-10-24) Luke 23:1-7
“And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate. And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King. And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it. Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man. And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place. When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean. And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.”
In today’s quote, Jesus was brought by Jewish leaders to Pilate, the Roman governor. They accused Him of subverting the nation, opposing the payment of taxes to Caesar, and claiming Himself to be Christ, a king. Pilate questioned Jesus about these accusations, particularly focusing on whether He claims to be the king of the Jews. Jesus answered that His kingship is not of this world. Pilate, not finding any fault in Jesus that would warrant death, declares to the accusers that he finds no basis for a charge against Him. However, upon learning that Jesus is Galilean and falls under Herod's jurisdiction, Pilate decided to send Jesus to Herod, who was in Jerusalem at the time, effectively passing the responsibility of judgment to another authority.~
