Lesson 4446

 (Lesson 4446)(04-05-24) Luke 22:35-38

And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing. Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end. And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

In today’s quote, Jesus spoke to His disciples about preparation for the challenges that laid ahead. He reminded them of a time when He sent them out to preach without purse, scrip, or shoes and asked if they lacked anything, to which they replied they lacked nothing. Then, He told them that now, if they have a purse or scrip, they should take it, and if they don't have a sword, they should sell their garment and buy one. Jesus was indicating a shift from a time of provision and peace to a time of trial and persecution. Jesus said that the scripture must be fulfilled in Him, that which says, "And he was reckoned among the transgressors."
