Lesson 4447

 (Lesson 4447)(04-06-24) Luke 22:39-44

And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him. And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.”

In today’s quote, Jesus went to the Mount of Olives, accompanied by His disciples. When they arrived, He instructed them to pray that they might not enter into temptation. Jesus then distanced Himself from them, knelt down, and prayed intensely. In His prayer, Jesus expressed His desire for the impending suffering to be taken away from Him, yet accepting His ultimate fate, He submissively prayed that not His will, but God's will be done. Amidst this profound moment of anguish, an angel from heaven appeared to Jesus, strengthening Him. Despite the heavenly support, Jesus' struggle intensified—He prayed even more earnestly, and His sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground. Today's quote highlights Jesus's humanity in facing severe distress and His divine obedience. The scene offers a poignant glimpse into Jesus’ inner dread before He was taken away to be crucified for our sins.~
