Lesson 4416

 (Lesson 4416)(03-06-24) Luke 17:7-10

But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat? And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink? Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not. So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.”

In today’s quote, Jesus presented a parable about servitude and humility. He asked if a servant, after having worked all day in the field, would be invited by his master to eat immediately upon returning; rather, the servant is expected to prepare the master's meal and eat afterward. The point is that servants do their duty without expecting gratitude for what they have done. Jesus concluded that when we, His followers, have done all that He has commanded, we should consider ourselves unworthy servants who have merely fulfilled our obligations. This lesson teaches about humility and the attitude of selfless service in the kingdom of God. It emphasizes that we, the followers of Christ, should not seek rewards for simply obeying God's commands, but rather we should view our service as our duty.~
