(Lesson 4862) (05-23-25) Galatians 2:18-21
“For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.”
In today’s lesson, Paul explained that if he rebuilt what he had torn down, that is to say that, if he returned to teaching the law instead of the gospel of Jesus Christ, he would make himself a transgressor to the new law of faith. He stated that through the law he died to the law so he could live to God. Paul had been crucified with Christ, and it was no longer he who lived, but Christ who lived in him. The life he then lived in the flesh, he lived by faith in the Son of God, who loves us all and gave Himself for us. Paul concluded that if righteousness could come through the law, then Christ died in nothing. Paul made it clear, religious law, or moral effort cannot save the eternal soul. Only faith in Jesus Christ can impart the righteousness that God requires for eternal life. Christ’s sacrifice is sufficient and final; salvation cannot be earned—it must be received by faith alone. ~
NOTE: Today’s is one of the most important lessons to be found in the New Testament. It clearly affirms that, in so far as the salvation of one’s eternal soul is concerned, the old laws of the Jews, in which so many of today’s “Christians” place their faith, are done away and have been replaced by the new law of faith in the life, death, burial, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ.
