(Lesson 4850) (05-11-25) 2nd Corinthians 11:1-3
“Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.”
In today’s quote, Paul expressed a heartfelt plea to the Corinthians, asking them to bear with him as he engaged in a defense of his apostolic authority. He conveyed a godly jealousy for them, having betrothed them to one husband, Christ, with the intention of presenting them as a pure virgin to Him when that day comes. Paul voiced his concern that, just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, their minds might be led astray from the simplicity and purity of the gospel of Christ. ~
NOTE: I don’t believe that all the pomp and rituals that are carried out in most “Christian” churches today, fall within the definition of the “simplicity” that is the gospel of Jesus Christ.
