Lesson 4542

 (Lesson 4542)(07-10-24) John 12:26-33

“If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him. Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. This he said, signifying what death he should die.”

In today’s quote, Jesus explained that anyone who serves Him must follow Him, and where He is, His servant will also be. Those who serve Jesus will be honored by the Father. Jesus then spoke about His troubled soul and acknowledged that His upcoming sacrifice is the purpose for which He came. He prayed, asking the Father to glorify His name. A voice from heaven responded, affirming that Jesus had already glorified His name and would do so again. The crowd heard the voice, some thinking it was thunder, others thinking it was an angel speaking. Jesus clarified that the voice was for their benefit, not His. He then talked about the judgment of this world and the impending defeat of its ruler, and He declared that when He is lifted up from the earth, He will draw all people to Himself, indicating the kind of death He had to die. ~
