Lesson 3139

(Lesson 3139)(08-05-2020) Matthew 8:1-4
“When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.”

As today’s lesson relates, after Jesus had healed the leper, and in order to remain within the boundaries of the law Himself, Jesus told the man to tell no one, and to go and do those things that were required of him under the law by offering a sacrifice.
It is important to note that before the leper could have made that sacrifice under the law, he would have also been required to have been baptized or ritually washed, or cleansed in water. From that requirement under the old Jewish law comes the confusion about what water baptism means to so many today.  Remember, Jesus fulfilled all the requirements of the law for those who will believe in Him.~
