Lesson 2398

(Lesson 2398)(07-09-18) Matthew 27:51-54
“And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.”
Today's quote relates that as Jesus died, the “veil of the temple” was torn apart. That act is very important to every soul who are now, or will become/ a believer in Jesus Christ.
Until Jesus died, completing His perfect sacrifice, that veil had always been a barrier between sinners and the presence of God. Until the death of Jesus, the Jewish high priest, representing the sacrifices of all the Jewish people, was the only person allowed entry, only once a year, into the “holy of holies”, (a place in the temple designated as the actual presence of God), where he would offer atonement for the sins of all the Jewish people.
After Jesus died, and the veil was destroyed, the door to God’s presence was opened through Jesus Christ, and the atonement for the sins of ALL mankind could be accomplished by simply accepting His sacrifice as perfect atonement for their/our sins.
The tearing of the veil is a very important symbol to all of us who believe in Jesus Christ to eternal life. ~
