(Lesson 2313)(04-11-18) Matthew 10:11-15
“And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence. And when ye come into an house, salute it. And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.”
In today’s lesson, when Jesus was sending out His aprostles to preach that the kingdom of God was near, He made a point of instructing them to preach ONLY to those who were willing to listen. They were explicitly told not to associate with those who were unwilling to hear their message; “And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.”
After telling the apostles to shun the non-believers, Jesus warned them of the consequences that would befall those who would deny His word; “ Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.”
Although the instructions mentioned in today’s lesson only applied to the Jews of that day, it is wise for everyone of us today, who profess to be followers of Jesus Christ, to limit our preaching and teaching to those who truly want to hear the word of God.~
