Lesson 2100

(Lesson 2100)(09-05-17)  Ephesians 5:19-21
“Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.”

Today’s quote contains more of Paul’s instructions to the children of God concerning their daily conduct.
Also, the first verse of today’s quote is commonly used as a part the foundation for the contention that instrumental music should not be used in a church worship service. (Namely, most churches of Christ, so-called.) To me, that argument is asinine and should be denounced out of hand. There is NO scripture in the New Testament that either justifies or condemns the practice of using instrumental music as a part of a worship service in church. Therefore, any argument against it, or any argument for it, lacks basis in fact. Since none of the writers of the New Testament saw the practice as important enough to deny head on, I am convinced that whether to use instrumental music in worship, or not, should be left up to the individual, or the individaul church as a whole. ~
