(Lesson 2099)(09-04-17) Ephesians 5:18
“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;”
Today’s quote is a short one but it is very important to be taken as a stand alone lesson because of the vast misunderstanding of what the quote actually says.
Sadly, there are far too many socalled Christian organizations who contend that ANY consumption of alchohol is a sin to be avoided. That contention, as is clearly established in today’s quote, is totally wrong. Paul clearly warned the children of God to “be not drunk with wine, WHEREIN IS TO EXCESS”, he DID NOT condemn the consumption of alcohol, at all.
Although among many individuals the consumption of alcohol is a disease and cannot be controlled and always leads to drunkeness “wherein is to excess”, thankfully the vast majority of those who consume alchol do not suffer from that disease and are perfectly capable of keeping their consumption level below “excess”.
By offering this commentary, I certainly don’t mean to be an advocate for the consumption of alcohol, however, I do intend to expose the false contention that ALL consumption of alcohol is evil. ~
