Lesson 4788

(Lesson 4788) (03-15-25) 1st Corinthians 7:6-9

“But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment. For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if they abide even as I. But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn. ~

In today’s quote, Paul clarified that his advice on marriage was given as a concession, not as a command. He expressed his personal preference that all believers remain single as he was, but he acknowledged that each person has their own God-given gift—some are called to singleness, while others are called to marriage. Paul advised that if someone struggles with self-control, it is better to marry than to burn. His teaching emphasized that while singleness allows for undivided devotion to the Lord, marriage is a God-ordained solution for those who desire companionship and to avoid sexual immorality. ~
