Lesson 4515

 (Lesson 4515)(06-13-24) John 7:45-53

Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him? The officers answered, Never man spake like this man. Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived? Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him? But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed. Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,) Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth? They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet. And every man went unto his own house.”

Today’s quote relates that the temple officers returned to the chief priests and Pharisees without having arrested Jesus, explaining that no one ever spoke like Him. The Pharisees rebuked the officers and questioned if any of the authorities or Pharisees have believed in Jesus, dismissing the commoners as ignorant of the law. Nicodemus, a Pharisee who had previously visited Jesus, suggested that the law required giving Jesus a fair hearing. The other Pharisees dismissed Nicodemus' suggestion and sarcastically ask if he is also from Galilee, insisting that no prophet had ever come from there. The passage ends with each person going to their own home, unresolved in their opinions about Jesus.~
