(Lesson 4511)(06-09-24) John 7:25-30
“Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill? But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ? Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is. Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not. But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me. Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.”
Today’s quote relates that some people in Jerusalem began to question whether Jesus might be the Christ, noting that He spoke openly despite the authorities seeking to kill Him. They expressed surprise that the leaders did not arrest Him and speculated about their own understanding of His identity. Jesus responded by teaching in the temple, proclaiming that they actually knew who He is and where He had come from, but that He was sent by God the Father, the One who is true, whom they did not really know. Jesus stated that He knows God because He is from Him and was sent by Him. That declaration provoked attempts to take Him, but no one laid a hand on Him because the time was not yet come.~
