Lesson 3782

 (Lesson 3782)(05-27-22) 2nd Corinthians 10:1-4

“Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”

Today’s quote contains a statement that far too many misconstrue has having some relationship, or intent, with water baptisms as they are practiced today. Paul said, speaking of the Jews as the escaped Egypt, “And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea”.                              The words “baptized unto Moses”, means that the Jews, as they crossed the Red Sea, were bound to Moses by their mutual ordeal as he led them through “the cloud and the sea”.

At NO point during the crossing of the Red Sea were any of the Jews ever immersed in water; Therefore, the usage of the word “baptized”, as it is applied in this context, cannot possibly pertain to any semblance of water immersion. Rather, it’s usage is directly related to the baptism that saves our eternal souls, that is the baptism into Christ. The word “baptized, as it is applied herein, is representative of the ordeal that Jesus Himself was about to undergo as he prepared for the  baptismal ordeal that would save the souls of all who will believe in Him.~
