(Lesson 5011) (10-20-25) 1st John 5:6-8
“This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.”
Today’s lesson explains that Jesus Christ came not only by water but also by blood, and the Holy Spirit confirms this truth. The three: Spirit, water, and blood, agree in unity about who He is. This quote supports what Jesus told Nicodemus: to enter God’s kingdom, a person must be born twice; first by water, meaning natural birth, and then by the Spirit, meaning spiritual rebirth through faith in Christ. In today’s terms: this passage reinforces Jesus’ teaching that true salvation happens when someone experiences both physical (water) birth and a second, spiritual birth by the power of the Holy Spirit. ~
