(Lesson 2606)(02-10-19) Luke 22:7-13
“Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed. And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat. And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare? And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in. And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready. And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.”
Today’s quote relates how Jesus and His disciples prepared to observe the “Passover” celebration and meal. The Passover meal was required to be observed by all Jews under the direct command of God Himself. Today we refer to that ritual as “the Lord’s supper” or “communion”.
Opposed to the vast majority of modern day thinking, that meal and celebration was reserved and intended for the Jews only. The command under the law was not then, nor will it ever be, a covenant that applied to the Gentiles.
NOTE: For references to all of the parts of this command to the Jews look to Exodus chapter twelve.
“And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to THEE AND THY SONS for ever. (That command DOES NOT include the Gentiles.) it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the Lord will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall keep this service. And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service? That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the Lord's passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.” (Exodus 12:24-27)
