Lesson 2601

(Lesson 2601)(02-04-19) Luke 20:41-47
“ And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son? And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I make thine enemies thy footstool. David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son? Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples, Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts; Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.”

The first part of today’s quote confirms that Jesus, the human man, was born from the lineage of king David. It also confirms that Jesus, the Son of God, sits, and will sit, at the right hand of God until He returns to redeem his kindom.
In the last part of the quote, Jesus warned His followers about those hypocrites who would always hold themselves out to be superior to the masses. Those who would set themselves apart by their lavish robes and pompous rituals.
Sadly, their are many today who defile the doctrine, and even the Spirit, of Jesus Christ by perpetrating the very mockery that Jesus warned against in this lesson. In my opionion, the most guilty of all the offenders today is the Roman Catholic Church. It appears that their whole religion denies almost every part of God’s word, and is based solely on pomp and ritual. Again, sadly, they are not the only perpetrators, much of the pomp has trickled down from the ancient Catholic church to even the smallest and most fundamental of the so-called followers of Christ. ~
