(Lesson 4936) (08-06-25) 2nd Timothy 2:15-19
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
In today’s quote, Paul urged the children of God to diligently study His word so as to present ourselves to others as approved before God, as workmen who rightly divide the word of truth. He warned against nonsensical arguments which can only lead to more ungodly misinformation that will spread like a disease among the weak and unknowing. (There is ample evidence of just that in most of today’s churches). Paul pointed out Hymenaeus and Philetus who had preached a false doctrine about the resurrection, claiming it had already occurred, thereby misleading some of the weak in faith. Paul assured us that the foundation of God’s word stands eternally sure, sealed with the truth that the Lord knows those of us who are His, and that we should remain faithful to that word. ~
