Lesson 4578

 (Lesson 4578)(08-16-24) John 19:25-27

“Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.”

In today’s quote, as Jesus hang on the cross, His mother Mary, her sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene stood near Him. Jesus, saw His mother and the disciple whom He loved (commonly understood to be John), told His mother, "Woman, behold your son!" and then He told John, "Behold your mother!" From that moment, that disciple (John) took Mary into his home. This passage emphasizes Jesus' love for His mother, even as He was dying on the cross, ensuring that she would be cared for after His death. What a wonderful Savior we serve. ~
