Lesson 4577

 (Lesson 4577)(08-15-24) John 19:23-24

“Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.”

In today’s quote, after Jesus was crucified, the soldiers took His garments and divided them into four parts, one part for each soldier. They also took His tunic, which is seamless and woven in one piece, and decided not to tear it but to cast lots to determine who would keep it. That action fulfilled the prophesy that says, "They divided My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots." This passage highlights the fulfillment of prophecy even in the details of Jesus' crucifixion. ~
