(Lesson 3475)(07-09-21) Luke 22:14-20
“And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.”
Today’s quote relates that Jesus and His apostles ate the Passover meal together for the last time.
Today there are many who contend that the Passover meal, as it is mentioned in today’s quote, morphed into what is today called, “Communion” or the “Lord’s supper” and the observance of which is mandatory to maintain spiritual rebirth. I vehemently disagree with that contention.
Although the Passover meal has become a special occasion to Gentile Christianity, because Jesus supposedly ordered that the meal be altered from God’s original plan that is found in Exodus chapter twelve. I believe Passover remains a Jewish rite and tradition since the Passover was never scripturally imposed upon anyone other than the Jews.
In depth study of this subject should be made before a determination is made on either contention.~
