Lesson 3466

 (Lesson 3466)(06-30-21) Luke 20:45-47

“Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples, Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts; Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.”

In today’s quote, Jesus made it clear that there is a special “damnation” for those who, like the scribes of old, dress in long robes and position themselves in high places to make public spectacles of themselves. Drawing attention to themselves as being above others.

Sadly, today there are many “churches” that allow, and even incourage, doing pricisely what Jesus warned about. Roman Catholicism, and most of the differing sects that were spun away from it, are more about ornate apparel, pomp and ritual, than they are about teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.~
