    “The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.”

    Today’s quote relates that from the beginning until the coming of John the Baptist, the Jews were bound by the laws that God sent directly to them. The quote also makes it clear that, beginning at the time of John’s coming, the new law of rebirth through faith in Jesus Christ was to be taught.

    We should note, however, that the rules of the old law are included in the new law of faith. When asked “which is the great commandment'’ Jesus said, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. ON THESE TWO COMMANDMENTS HANG ALL THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS.”
