Lesson 3254

 (Lesson 3254)(01-14-21) Mark 9:28-29    

    “And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out? And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.”

    Today’s quote contains an anomaly that is confusing at best. Therein, Jesus is said to have stated that a certain “dumb spirit” could only be cast out through prayer and fasting”. We should make note that Jesus is the Son of God, a human man who had within Him ALL the power of God. He was never required to do anything to create a miracle other than to will it. In fact, Jesus IS the omnipotent God able to accomplish anything with His will. 

    Therefore, today’s quote makes no rational sense at all. I believe the quote was added to the text by the Roman Catholic church so as to allow the acts of man tod seemingly be interwoven with the power of God for reasons of appearance. That is evident seeing that for every act committed by Roman Catholic church there is a pompous ceremonial ritual that draws attention away from the power of God toward those who are performing it. ~
