(Lesson 3249)(01-09-21) Mark 8:31-33
“And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.”
In today’s quote, after telling His apostles of the events that were soon to occur, Peter challenged Jesus, declaring that he (Peter) would not stand for the Jews laying hands on Jesus to crucify Him. Jesus then said, “Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.”
We should remember that the same Peter, whom Jesus just called “Satan”, is the man the Roman Catholics have said was the father of the church. I’ll say this, there IS NO father of the church by Jesus Christ Himself.~
