Lesson 2977

Lesson (2977)(02-23-20) 1 Timothy 4:1-6
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.”

In today’s quote Paul warned Timothy to be aware that there would be those who would fall away from the faith and try to subvert the true doctrine of Jesus Christ. That warning, at the time, was mainly pointed toward the Jews; However, there were also idol worshipers and sorcerers who also preyed upon the early church.
That warning was certainly justified because today, in some supposed “Christian” isms, the pure gospel of Christ is hardly reconizable at all. Although Jesus gave His life as the perfect sacrifice for ALL sin for all those who would only believe in Him, there are many today who contend that it takes more than the blood of Christ to remit sin. Many contend that one must believe in and accept Jesus Christ as his/her savior, but also commit him/herselve to the Jewish ritual of water baptism (immersion). Their claim is that one part of their “operation” will not save one’s eternal soul without the other. Nothing could be further from the truth; “
For by grace are ye saved, through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast”. (Ephesians 2:8-9) To submit to water baptism is a “work”.~
