(Lesson 2579)(01-13-19) Luke 16:14-17
“And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him. And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God. The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it. And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.”
In today’s quote, Jesus rebuked the *Pharisees as being, essentially, the ultimate hypocrites. They, like so many today, identified and paraded themselves as ultra-righteous, while inwardly they were evil beyond measure because they used thier self created status to enrich themselves monetarily at the expense of the scripturally ignorant.
In the second half of today’s quote, Jesus clarified that the law, as it applied to His followers, ended as the new law of salvation by grace through faith began for those same followers.~
*The pharisees were the leading sect of the Jews at the time of Jesus.
