(Lesson 2512)(11-05-18) Luke 3:19-22
“But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done, Added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison. Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.”
As is stated in today’s quote, because John had called out his sins, Herod set out to imprison him.
The last part of the quote relates how Jesus, in obedience to the Law, was ritually baptized in water as a part of His fulfilling the Law of Moses. After Jesus had finished His baptism, God the Father said; “Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.”
Being Himself a Jew, and in order to be a perfect sacrifice for the sins of all mankind, Jesus was required to fully obey every aspect of the Law.~
