(Lesson 2495)(10-18-18) Mark 16:14-20
“Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.”
Today’s lesson will cover the third important part of the above quote. Therein, Jesus provided a list of things that would identify Christian people, those who wholly believe in Jesus Christ, throughout all time. He said, “In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” I firmly believe that if our faith was strong enough, we could indeed do all the things Jesus put in that list. The major problem is, I don’t know of ANY Christian with that amount of faith. I do know, however, that in my own experience, by praying in total belief that God would provide the answer, I have received obviously divine gifts that I would not have otherwise gotten. Because of my faith in Jesus Christ I have lived a life that has been blessed beyond all imagination.~
NOTE: to “speak with new tongues” simply means to learn new languages. That DOES NOT mean that Christian people will speak with sounds that no one else, except the Holy Spirit, can understand.
