(Lesson 2493)(10-16-18) Mark 16:14-20
“Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.”
Today’s quote is one of the most misunderstood in the New Testament. Because of that misunderstanding; along with Matthew 28:19, this quote has become one of the most misleading quotes in the New Testament.
Herein; Jesus told His disciples, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned.
It is ultra important to understand that the word “baptized”, as it is applied in this quote, DOES NOT REFER TO WATER BAPTISM. The term “baptized” as it is applied herein, just as does the word “baptizing” in Matthew 28:19, refers to an immersion, by faith, into the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Today’s quote applys the same word, “baptized”, to describe what is necessary to be “saved” as is applied in Galatians 3:27; “For as many of you as have been BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST, have put on Christ.”
Therefore, to be “saved” does not require water baptism, one must ONLY be immersed by grace through faith into Jesus Christ.~
NOTE: This lesson will be confirmed and made clearer as these lessons progress.
