(Lesson 2184)(12-01-17) Hebrews 12:4-6
“Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.”
Today’s lesson reminds us that if we are truly the children of God, and belong to the brotherhood of Jesus Christ, we can expect hard times. We can also expect to be punished for the things that we do that are contrary to the will of God. We should never worry that God has abandoned us when things don’t go the way we think they should, we should rejoice in the knowledge that the Lord is still looking toward us to lead us out of any trouble and to correct us when we get out of line.
Those who should worry are those who are always on top of the world seeming never to encounter hard times. Remember, Satan is alive and well, he will grant you any earthly dream you might have just to keep you away from eternal salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
We have been warned over and over that to belong to Jesus Christ invites trouble from all sides therefore, we should expect it. We are, however, assured that Jesus will carry us safely through all the bad times and deliver us unharmed to His heavenly kingdom. ~
