Lesson 2214

(Lesson 2214)(12-31-17) 1 Peter 3:8-13
“ Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?”

Today’s quote instructs the children of God to be humble in everything they do and most importantly to obey the two “great” commandments, “Jesus said unto him, thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, thou shalt love they neighbour as thyself. on these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." (Matthew 22:37-40)~

Lesson 2213

(Lesson 2213)(12-30-17) 1 Peter 3:1-6
“Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.”

Today’s quote instructs Christian husbands and wives to be respectful of each other and to remain equally dedicated to the Lord’s work.
In the sight of God, there is no difference between a woman and a man; “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, THERE IS NEITHER MALE NOR FEMALE: FOR YE ARE ALL ONE IN CHRIST JESUS.” (Galatians 3:28)~

Lesson 2212

(Lesson 2212)(12-29-17) 1 Peter 2:17-25
“Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.”

Today’s quote instructs the children of God to be patient and forgiving toward those whom are given authority over us.
In the last part of the quote, we are, again assured that, because we cannot sin, our redemption is guaranteed and eternal. When speaking of Jesus, Peter said, “his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”~

Lesson 2211

(Lesson 2211)(12-28-17) 1 Peter 2:11-16
“Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.”

Today’s quote makes it clear that herein Peter was writing to a group of Christian Jews. That fact was made evident when he said; “Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles”. Knowing that Peter was speaking to Jews has no particular significance other than to educate the bible student as to whom Peter is to be most associated. Although Peter did, at times address Gentile audiences, we should remember that Paul was the apostle appointed by Jesus to minister to the Gentiles.
Within today’s quote, Peter gave an instruction that applies to Christianity today maybe even moreso than it has thoughout our history. Peter said; “Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake”. That instruction needs to be more pronounced today because there are so many, so-called Christians, who, instead of obeying the two simple “great” commandments Jesus gave to Christianity and “every ordinance of man”, seem to be far more concerned with obeying, and preaching, the old laws God gave specifically to the Jews. Those, so-called, Christians seem to ignore the scriptural fact that Jesus fulfilled every whit of those old laws during His lifetime and buried them in His tomb.
Instead of preaching old, fulfilled Jewish laws, we, today, should be preaching eternal salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ crucified.~

Lesson 2210

(Lesson 2210)(12-27-17) 1 Peter 2:1-10
“ Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.”

Today’s quote instructs us (The children of God) to study His word with a mind that is not beleagured by old and false doctrines. As devoted believers, we are to open our minds to the understanding that Jesus is the ONLY means by which we can achieve everlasting life.
To the unlearned, Jesus is a stumbling block or an impedence to the old ways, yet to those of us who believe in Him, He is the means to a glorious eternity with God in Heaven.~

Lesson 2209

(Lesson 2209)(12-26-17) 1 Peter 1:17-25
“And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”

This lesson reminds those of us whom have been saved, by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, that we have been bought, not with earthly things that will eventually decay, but rather with the perfect and eternal blood of that same Jesus Christ. That knowledge assures us that our salvation is eternally gauranteed. “Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby YE ARE SEALED UNTO THE DAY OF REDEMPTION.” Just as the word of God will stand throughout eternity, so will the life that comes through belief.~

Lesson 2208

(Lesson 2208)(12-25-17) 1 Peter 1:13-16
“Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am
holy.”

Today’s lesson tells those who are already Christian people to forever remain obedient to the will of God. God’s will to usward was expressed as follows in Matthew 22:37-39; “Jesus said unto him, thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all they soul, and with all thy mind. this is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, thou shalt love they neighbour as thyself. On these two commandmenst hang all the law and the prophets.”~

Lesson 2207

(Lesson 2207)(12-24-17) 1 Peter 1:1-12
“ Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.”

In today’s lesson, Peter confirms that eternal salvation is accomplished ONLY by grace, through faith on our Lord Jesus Christ: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” Within this same scriptural text, Peter also confirms that salvation is eternal and CANNOT be given, or taken away: “an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, RESERVED IN HEAVEN FOR YOU, WHO ARE KEPT BY THE POWER OF GOD THROUGH FAITH UNTO SALVATION ready to be revealed in the last time.”
Praise God for His infinite mercy and the eternal salvation security He grants to the believer.~

Lesson 2206

(Lesson 2206)(12-23-17) James 5:16-20
“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.”

Today’s lesson promotes the power of prayer. Praise God, I know from many experiences that, through prayer, a child of God can rest assured that he/she can accomplish anything, so long as the request lies within the will of God. Therefore, we should pray “without ceasing”, for our own health, the health of others, and for allo of our daily needs. God is always there, He ALWAYS hears His own, and He NEVER forgets.~

Lesson 2205

(Lesson 2205)(12-22-17) James 5:12-15
“But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation. Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.”

Today’s lesson tells us not to swear under any circumstances. It also tells us to pray when we’re down and to sing when we’re happy. This lesson also tells us that if we humbly pray for the sick, their illnesses will be taken away and their sins will be forgiven. ~

Lesson 2204

(Lesson 2204)(12-21-17) James 5:7-11
“Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door. Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.”

Today’s quote demands patience from the children of God. It assures that, just as God restored a full life and happiness to Job, He will certainly come through for all of us who have the patience to wait for the fulfilling of His promises.~

Lesson 2203

(Lesson 2203)(12-20-17) James 5:1-6
“Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.”

Today’s lesson contains a warning of ultimate condemnation to the rich, and to those whom have abused others to amass earthly wealth.~

Lesson 2202

(Lesson 2202)(12-19-17) James 4:10-17
“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another? Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”

Today’s quote instructs us, the children of God, to be humble in our dealings with one another. It also tells us to refrain from judging one another; “There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?” The lesson tells us that God is the ultimate judge of what is, and what is not, sin.
It is a sad thing, but many of today’s so-called Christians have erroneously designated themselves the sin police, not appearing to realize that all who choose to walk outside the will of God have already been condemned, and need no further judgment.~

Lesson 2201

(Lesson 2201)(12-18-17)  James 4:1-9
“From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.”

In today’s quote, Christian people are enouraged to keep their thoughts oriented toward Jesus Christ. If we do that, we will tamp down the hatred that overcomes us. We must turn that hatred into love and understanding so that we can begin to pull, all together, toward the perfection that is imputed into us through faith in Jesus Christ. The love of Jesus Christ can overcome evil and transform this world into a much happier and more peaceful place. We need only to sincerely call upon it and believe in it.~

Lesson 2200

(Lesson 2200)(12-17-17)  James Chapter Three
“My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.”

Today’s quote should be studied over and over by every Christian man and woman. It stands on its own, there is nothing I can add except to say that this lesson applies more to us now, with today’s relationships between people, than ever before in our history. ~

Lesson 2199

(Lesson 2199)(12-16-17)  James 2:14-26
“ What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”

Today’s quote would seem to endorse the contentions of some that one is not eternally saved by faith alone. If that were true, which it most certainly is not, then all the teachings of Paul and many of the other disciples would be rendered false. The truth of what I’m saying here is clearly demonstrated in Romans 4:4-5 and Ephesians 2:8-9 etc. Romans 4:4-5 reads; “Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that WORKETH NOT, but BELIEVETH on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his FAITH IS COUNTED FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS.” That quote clearly tells us that it is NOT the things (the works) that we do here on earth that saves us, but rather it is our faith in Jesus Christ that provides the necessary righteouness to enter Christ’s kingdom  heaven. Ephesians 2:8-9 again verifies that is our faith that saves us, NOT WORKS; “For by grace are ye saved THROUGH FAITH; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast.
Having said the above, James makes a very good point in the quote. Faith, without being demonstrated or exercised, is indeed a dead faith. However, even a “dead” faith is nonetheless still faith. And as we most assuredly know, faith in the life, death, burial, resurrection and ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ is all that is required to receive eternal salvation.
It would do us well to also remember that James, the author of this text, was a devout Jew and as our earlier study indicated he, and some of the other apostles, continually tried to impose elements of the old Hebrew Law onto Christian doctrine, If we reflect back to those earlier lessons, we can see that even Peter struggled to keep the gospel of Jesus Christ to its purest form. He and Paul had open and contentious arguments about it. James was, more than likely, one of the hardliners who tried to get Paul killed. I have found no scriptural evidence for the charge other than that the efforts to kill Paul originated with the Jews in Jerusalem where James was prominant among the leaders.~

Friday, December 15, 2017

(Lesson 2198)(12-15-17)  James 2:10-13
“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.”

Today’s quote clearly establishes that if a soul is found guilty of one sin, even the tiniest, he/she is guilt if ALL sin.
This point should be very important to those who are studying God’s word in search of a means to eternal salvation since some believe, and contend, that small sins don’t count against our salvation so much as the big sins do. The facts are that ALL sin counts against our eternal souls unless we are saved by the Grace of God through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Thank and praise almighty God that NO sin counts against our our eternal souls if we have the righteousness of Jesus Christ imputed into us through faith in that same Jesus Christ.~

Thursday, December 14, 2017

(Lesson 2197)(12-14-17)  James 2:1-9
   “My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;
And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:
Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?
Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?
If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

This lesson clearly tells all of Christianity that we are to be NO respectors of persons. We should see the poorest of the poor just as we see the wealthiest among us.
We should NEVER look down upon another person because of his or her outward appearance. We, who are conceived in sin and are unworthy to judge, can only see the outside of our neighbors, whereas, God, the ONLY righteous judge, sees everything about all of us. He sees inside our hearts, the only part that truly matters.~

(Lesson 2196)(12-13-17)  James 1:22-27
“ But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”

Today’s quote speaks clearly for itself and needs no additionaly commentary. ~

Lesson 2195

(Lesson 2195)(12-12-17)  James 1:17-21
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.”

Today’s lesson tells us that all good things come from God and that all the bad things we suffer through come from our own sinful nature. Therefore, we should lay aside all thoughts of evil and cloak ourselves in the righteousness that is Jesus Christ, in everything we do.
(Lesson 2194)(12-11-17)  James 1:13-16
“Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren.”

Today’s quote makes it clear the God NEVER tempts mankind to do the wrong thing. Sin cannot originate from something God has ordained. If a child of God commits a sin, it is because he/she chose to do so because of the evil in that is in his/her heart. ~

Lesson 2193

(Lesson 2193)(12-10-17)  James 1:9-12
“Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”

In today’s lesson, the church of God is told to accept anyone who has committed to Jesus Christ, no matter their earthly status, whether they are rich or poor.~

Lesson 2192

(Lesson 2192)(12-09-17)  James 1:1-8
“James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”

It is very important to note that today’s quote, taken from a letter from James, which was clearly sent specifically  to “the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad”. The noting is important because this lesson is yet another that was specifically addressed to Jewish Christians.
Herein, James instructs those Jewish Christians to rely wholly on their faith FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST for all their needs. He reminded them that if ANY doubt existed, their prayers would be blown away by the wind.
That same rule applies to today’s Christians. If we pray for our wants and needs, we should do so absolutely believing that if the answer we desire is within the will of God, our wants and needs will be given to us. If one indeed has faith that God answers the prayers of the righteous through Jesus Christ, that one should pray for what he/she wants ONCE, then forget about it. To pray for the same things over and over displays a lack of faith, God ALWAYS hears the prayers of the righteous through Jesus Christ, and WILL NOT forget you asked.~

Lesson 2191

(Lesson 2191)(12-08-17)  Hebrews 13:17-25
“Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you. Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly. But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner. Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. And I beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words. Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty; with whom, if he come shortly, I will see you. Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy salute you. Grace be with you all. Amen.”

In today’s lesson, the author encouraged the children of God to obey those who have power over them. This Christian commandment is re-affirmed by what Peter wrote in 1 Peter 2:13; “Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.”~

Lesson 2190

(Lesson 2190)(12-07-17)  Hebrews 13:9-16
“Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein. We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle. For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp. Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.”

In today’s quote, the author again encouraged the Hebrew children of God to remain true to the doctrine of Jesus Christ. And, not to follow those who would distort and destroy that doctrine for their own purposes.
He also condemned those who were continuously trying to re-establish the rules of the old Hebrew law. ~

Lesson 2189

(Lesson 2189)(12-06-17)  Hebrews 13:1-8
“Let brotherly love continue. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body. Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”

Today’s quote is a list of instructions, not only to the Christian Hebrews, but to all of us who take on the cause of Jesus Christ.
The last verse of the quote contains a very powerful statement; “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” Truer words were never spoken.~

Lesson 2188

(Lesson 2188)(12-05-17)  Hebrews 12:22-29
“But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel. See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven: Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire.”

In today’s quote, the author encouraged the Hebrew Christians to step completely away from the bindings of the old Law, and to accept the new law of faith in Jesus Christ. The author said, in essence, that by accepting Christ Jesus, the lost receive the assurance of “a kingdom which cannot be moved”.~

Lesson 2187

(Lesson 2187)(12-04-17)  Hebrews 12:12-21
“Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears. For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest, And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more: (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart: And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)”

In today’s quote, the author encouraged the Hebrew Christian faithful to lift themselves up and courageously walk the walk of a true child of God. Being constantly on guard against those who would tear at the fabric of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, being careful not to abandon our faith as did so many of those who followed Moses.
We today are to also buttress ourselves against the constant onslaught of the infidels even moreso than did our ancient counterparts. The temptations of today’s world are far more powerful than those that were encountered by the early Christians. Therefore, it is crucial that we study constantly so as to enable ourselves to maintain the perfection that is God’s holy word. ~

Lesson 2186

(Lesson 2186)(12-03-17)  Hebrews 12:9-11
“Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.”

This lesson relates that if we love and respect our earthly fathers for the punishment they lay upon us simply because of our disobedience to their rules, how much moreso should we love and respect the punishment of our heavenly Father whereby our eternal souls are affected.~

Lesson 2185

(Lesson 2185)(12-02-17)  Hebrews 12:7-8
“If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.”

Today’s lesson tells us that if we’re being punished, here on earth, for the wrongs that we do, it is a powerful sign that we are indeed the children of God. If, however, we are not punished for the wrongs that we do, we most likely are not the children of God.~

Lesson 2184

(Lesson 2184)(12-01-17)  Hebrews 12:4-6
“Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.”

Today’s lesson reminds us that if we are truly the children of God, and belong to the brotherhood of Jesus Christ, we can expect hard times. We can also expect to be punished for the things that we do that are contrary to the will of God. We should never worry that God has abandoned us when things don’t go the way we think they should, we should rejoice in the knowledge that the Lord is still looking toward us to lead us out of any trouble and to correct us when we get out of line.
Those who should worry are those who are always on top of the world seeming never to encounter hard times. Remember, Satan is alive and well, he will grant you any earthly dream you might have just to keep you away from eternal salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
We have been warned over and over that to belong to Jesus Christ invites trouble from all sides therefore, we should expect it. We are, however, assured that Jesus will carry us safely through all the bad times and deliver us unharmed to His heavenly kingdom. ~
