(Lesson 2079)(08-12-17) Galatians 4:1-7
“Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”
In today’s quote, Paul explained how, until the coming of Jesus Christ, the Gentiles were considered by the Jews to be inferior and unclean, and therefore subject to their law as it concerned eternity. But, once Christ came, being born of God by a woman, He delivered both Jews and Gentiles, who would believe in Him, so that they became, as Himself, the sons and daughters of God, and joint heirs of eternal life.
Once again, in this lesson Paul explained that neither being a Jew, nor abiding by their law, was an advantage toward gaining eternal life, nor was it a prerequisite to gaining eteral life. “For by Grace are ye saved, through faith, and that, not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Not of works lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)~
