Lesson 1361

(Lesson 1361)(06-23-15) Colossians 2:16-23

"Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God. Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh."

Today's lesson is one of the more meaningful lessons on what eternal salvation truly means to the daily lives of those who place their absolute faith in the life, death, burial, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ.

Paul was very precise in the way he expressed that no matter what a child of God does in the flesh, in regards to rules made by mankind or what so many today refer to as sin, their soul is eternally protected by the grace of God through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul said; "Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? " This clearly means that because, through faith, one's eternal soul is sealed by the Holy Spirit, that that one is no longer bound by the rules that are made up by some who have no knowledge of, or relationship with, God and His "operation".

It behooves every child of God to adhere to the two "great" commandments remembering that those two commandments are the only commandments that apply to the children of God. Jesus said; "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." (Matthew 22:37-40 in part.)

All the Christian rules of life are wound into those two commandments. If we keep God and His divine will foremost in everything we do and make sure that every action we take is taken with the best interest of all people in mind, we have obeyed the two "great" commandments. ~
