This lesson tells us of the beginning of the torture that Jesus was to endure on our behalf. It also exposes the weakness of Peter's faith as he, three times, denied knowing our savior.
Oddly, the Roman Catholic Church, and others, glorify Peter as the first "Pope", the head of the "church".
It has always been a mystery to me how anyone could come the conclusion that Jesus authorized any one man to sit in authority over His Church, when the bible text so teaches otherwise. Matt. 20:25-28, "But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall NOT be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. ~~
