Lesson 5349

 (Lesson 5349)(09-29-26) Luke 9:1-5 

    " Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece. And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart. And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them." 

 

      Today's quote describes Jesus empowering and commissioning the twelve disciples to preach the kingdom of God and giving them power to heal the sick while traveling light without any type of provisions. The lesson in today's quote is that the apostles of Christ, at that time, were sent out to teach the exact same thing that John the Baptist and Jesus Himself were teaching. It was not a message of eternal salvation, but rather that the coming gospel of salvation through faith in the sacrifice of Jesus, the Son of God, was soon to come. Another important lesson therein, is that we, today, are not to spend our time judging the sins of those around us, but that we are to make the good news of God's amazing, saving grace available to them. The decision of whether to listen is up to the individual, we are NOT commanded to force the gospel of Christ on anyone. ~
