(Lesson 4730) (01-16-25) Romans 7:5-6
For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.”
In today’s quote, Romans 7:5-6, Paul explained that before the perfect sacrifice of Christ, Jews were controlled by their own sinful nature and failure to comply with the laws God had imposed upon them, the outcome of which, leads to a certain spiritual death. However, now that those of us who believe have died to the law through the perfect sacrifice of Christ, we are released from the bondage of those laws. (NOTE: The Gentiles were never bound by those Jewish laws.)
That freedom allows the Jews to serve in the newness of the Spirit, rather than in the oldness of the letter (the law). Paul emphasized that no believer is bound by the law but rather are empowered to live a new life through the impartation of the Holy Spirit. ~
