Lesson 4606

 (Lesson 4606)(09-13-24) Acts 4:1-4

“And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them, Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide. Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.”

Today’s quote relates that as Peter and John were speaking to the people after the healing of the lame man, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees confronted them. They were angry because Peter and John were telling the people about Jesus being risen from the dead and the soul saving power of His sacrifice. They arrested Peter and John and held them in a cell until the next day, as it was already evening. Despite this, many who heard their message believed, and the number of saved believers grew by about five thousand that day. This passage highlights the opposition the apostles faced but also the growing impact of their teaching about the amazing, saving grace of God through a risen Jesus Christ. ~
