Lesson 4429

sson 4429)(03-19-24) Luke 19:45-47

When Jesus entered the temple courts, he began to drive out those who were selling. It is written, he said to them, My house will be a house of prayer; but you have made it a den of robbers. Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him. Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words.”

In today’s quote, Jesus entered the temple in Jerusalem and began to drive out those who were selling and buying there. He told them, “It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves”. This act of cleansing the temple underscored Jesus' condemnation of the commercial exploitation of religious practices and His call for the temple to, instead, be ONLY a place of worship. Following that, He taught daily in the temple. The chief priests, scribes, and leaders of the people sought to destroy Him and His message, but they could not find a way to do it because all the people had listened intently to and believed His teachings, that indicated the popularity of Jesus' message and the problem He posed to the religious authorities.~
