(Lesson 3716)(03-22-22) Romans 4:4-5
“Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.”
Today’s quote is one of my personal favorites in that it speaks loudly for itself and needs no further commentary.
The quote substantiates yesterday’s lesson in that it clearly establishes that the “good works”, we might do from day to day, have NOTHING to do with the salvation of our eternal soul.
It establishes that, if we work for something, the reward for that work cannot be a gift of grace. But rather, the reward for the work would be payment for a deed done.
Although “good works” are the right thing for ALL Christians to do, they have NO bearing on whether or not we are accepted into heaven. ONLY the imputed righteousness of Jesus which we receive BY FAITH ONLY, can be a true gift of grace.~
