(Lesson 3207)(10-14-20) Matthew 20:24-28
“ And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren. But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
In today’s quote, Jesus told His apostles that no one of them was to be positioned above another in His church. Even Jesus Himself, God in man, He who had the power to destroy the earth at will, humbled Himself as a servant to His followers and gave Himself freely as an eventual sacrifice for the sins of all mankind.
Today’s quote also decries the erroneous Roman Catholic contention that one man, the pope, is to be elevated above all others in the church. That contention is an insult to the will of God.
Jesus Christ is the ONLY head of the church as it was then and as it forever will be, and we, the children of God, are simply it’s body. ~
