(Lesson 3196)(10-03-20) Matthew 18:18
Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
In today’s quote Jesus gave a blessed power to ALL of those who make up His church.
In and earlier lesson from Matthew 13:18-19 Jesus said, “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
I made that point because the Roman Catholic church contends that the “keys of the kingdom” were promised explicitly to Peter, excluding all others. When in fact, as we clearly can see in today’s quote, that promise was made to any and all members of the church.
From that gross misinterpretation of the text, Roman Catholicism created the office of the pope. A position that was NEVER authorized by Jesus. As a matter of fact, the entirety of what Jesus taught was contrary to ANYONE being in a position of authority over the church, except Jesus Himself. ~
