Lesson 3116

(Lesson 3116)(07-13-2020) Matthew 3:13-17
“Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

As is relayed in today’s quote, when Jesus asked John to be baptized, John refused, asking, “I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?”. John knew, that in order to be saved from his sins, he needed to be baptized into the persona of Jesus, that being, in simpler terms, the soul saving blood of Jesus. When John initially refused, he probably didn’t realize that Jesus, being a Jew, was also required to be ritually baptized under the law before He could, become the obedient, sin free sacrifice for all sin, fulfilling the entire law.
After Jesus Had been baptized in water and fullfilled that requiremetn, God recognized Jesus and said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”~
