(Lesson 3115)(07-12-2020) Matthew 3:11-12
“ I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
Today’s bible quote is one of the most important that is to be found in the New Testament when it is correctly understood. The quote, very cleary, defines the difference between a ritual water baptism (immersion), of the type that was required of all Jews and administered by John the Baptist, and the spritual, soul saving, baptism (immersion) that is, still today, administered by Jesus Christ Himself.
Make note that John said, in effect, that he could immerse a person in water and cleanse the earthly filth from their flesh. But, when Jesus has come and has completed His divine, soul saving sacrifice, He will cleanse your eternal soul by immersing you into His own sacrificial blood which will wash away, not just the dirt from your body, bur rather, He will wash away (remit) the sins from your very eternal soul’.
This quote should be remembered always as we make this study of the doctrine of Jesus Christ, and what God requires of a lost soul in order to gain eternal salvation.~
